Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer Review

For the past two years, I’ve been fascinated with Guardians of the Galaxy. At the San Diego Comic Con in 2012, Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, announced that this would be a movie. It’s based on the comic book series of the same name, and the reason I along with the rest of the internet has been fascinated with this film is that it’s so damn bizarre. The cast of characters in the titular group is a Han Solo-type protagonist, a sexy green alien that happens to be the offspring of the main baddie in this Cinematic Universe that Marvel is unveiling, a giant, purple skinned alien, a giant tree that doesn’t speak, and a talking raccoon. So if you think this is a safe bet for success, think again. That’s the appeal of this film, and late last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Chris Pratt, the star of Guardians debuted the films first trailer, and the internet has been abuzz ever since. I’ve seen the trailer a couple of times, and the response has been near unanimous.

The trailer looks exciting and a blast at the movie theaters this summer, but that film’s humor, which you see in the trailer, is very morbid and odd, and I mean that in the most positive way possible. James Gunn wrote and directed the film, and he’s known for directing genre films, and I gotta applaud Feige for giving a small time filmmaker a mult-million dollar budget and a property like this to toy with, and I think the film could be a blast. Chris Pratt plays Peter Quill, and he is in his prime here. I said in my review of The Lego Movie that I think and hope that Chris Pratt will be the next great American actor, and this trailer and (hopefully) this film will let audiences know that this guy is somebody to really look out for, and should be making the kind of money that Marky Mark makes one day. Zoe Saldana plays the green alien Gamora, Dave Bautista plays Drax the Destroyer (the purple guy), Vin Diesel voices the big tree Groot, and Bradley Cooper will provide the voice of Rocket Raccoon. God, what a bizarre film. But I’m excited for this film, and Marvel has yet to disappoint me with anything that they’ve done yet, and with a guy like James Gunn making this trippy superhero flick, I think we are in good hands. So, are you excited for Guardians of the Galaxy, or does this not look like your cup of tea?
